“The Terror of Ettinmarsh” presents the village of Anminster, filled with interesting non-player characters to give the Games Master some good opportunities to either interact with the heroes or devise additional adventure ideas.
When the Friday Night Roleplayers played the adventure, I used option four from the list of ways to get the adventurers involved:
A Thief in the party receives word from Gangle that he needs help with a problem in Anminster.
Lothmyr, the party’s thief, and Aoth, a fighter/thief, spent one session off away from the rest of the party while the pair had a secret meeting with Gangle. I’ll not spoil the details of who Gangle is here… but one of the additional characters mentioned in the adventure is Quickpaw.
In the module, Quickpaw is described simply as “Gangle’s assistant”. From the beginning, however, Quickpaw was always first and foremost a Bruxx (rat-man) and an accomplished member of the Thieves’ Guild.
Below are the Classic Fantasy stats I put together in case the players decided to hire Quickpaw’s services. As it turned out, this fellow saved their butts and eventually went on to teach Lothmyr the basics of alchemy.

In case you’re wondering, I didn’t include his stats in the final module because Bruxx are a feature of my home campaign and not an official Classic Fantasy race. I also felt that leaving the details open to Games Master interpretation was important.
