Last week I had an absolute blast playing GURPS Dungeon Fantasy with the neophytes at the school club. Tonight, we did it again!
In short, they finished the adventure we started last week. They rescued the kidnapped child, they defeated the Goblins and their Orc boss… and they even deciphered the cryptic messages on the walls of the tomb, worked out it was a riddle, solved the riddle, and opened the secret tomb.
For their efforts, Zamora (the two-weapon swashbuckler type) has found a magical Broadsword; Sir Loric has found a magical shield!
But, it was tough. A brutal adventure!
What Happened?
They started out squabbling. I got some Goblins to take pot-shots with their bows and this galvanised the heroes on the real issues. Zamora cut down the Goblins, revealing the way to the kidnapped girl.
Sir Loric got into a taunting match with the big Orc, stepped on a pressure plate in the corridor, activated the scything blade trap, and was cut down. Didn’t slow him much, though, because Cal (the thief) had earlier found a vial of red liquid and poured it down Loric’s throat – yes, a healing potion.
“No fair,” cried the DM!
After this, the party leaped across the pressure plate. Zamora and Ragnar (the 7′ tall barbarian) got stuck in! Three strikes later, the Orc was down and bleeding in a headless heap.
The girl was rescued. Hurrah!
Then they noticed the runic script – the second lot that night – and figured out the rest.
Good fun was had by all!
What Next?
I asked them, “Do you want to play again?”
“Yes!” they yelled.
“Do you want to keep these heroes… or make up your own?”
They decided to stick with what they’ve got. As interested as they are in trying out other characters, they agreed that these four were really pretty exciting to play with.
So, I guess I better write another adventure.
Game on!
“”Yes!” They yelled!” Such a beutiful sound!
Nice!
It always warms my soul to hear that a new group of GURPS players want to continue playing after their first GURPS adventure is completed. Long may they continue playing GURPS. 🙂
