Due to various complications this week, last night’s planned science-fiction game didn’t happen. As the group has evaporated under the pressures of modern life, I am left alone with my roleplaying tomes.
This morning, I’ve decided to return to the 5th Edition through the lens of Dungeonesque – an old-school presentation of basic Dungeons & Dragons.
Characters
Firstly, I’ve created (or re-created, really) two of my favourite hero concepts from years long gone. Goriel Swiftfoot is my Rogue and Soryandum is my Wizard.
My basic plan is to take this pair adventuring beneath a re-envisioned Whitegrave – the Dwarven Citadel which lies in a wasteland of post-apocalyptic doom. They will be delving the lost tombs and galleries that lie under the city within which survivors live.
With only the All-Father to protect them, the citizens of Whitegrave look for any means of escape… including becoming members of the Adventurer’s Guild (poor fools).
Dungeon
Using the rather nifty Deck of Many Dungeons, I’ve created… well, a dungeon. Soryandum has a map of an unexplored crypt which I reckon is this place. That explains why we already have the layout.
I’ll simply run through it using the random elements presented, aiming to see how it all plays out. If nothing else, it’ll pass a few hours and give me a game… which I rather desperately need, methinks.
Game on!
That dungeonesque OSR system looks cool at first look. Not many pages, if a little cramped.
Would have liked to try it, but feeling ropey.
Like the options with the classes and races, but have yet to read it all. I hear that the DM book only has 60 pages as well – very compact.
